FREEdom of Information, Not FEEdom of Information.
If I am elected, I will bring forth a resolution to:
- Remove FOIA from being handled in the City Attorney’s Office.
- Remove as many fees as possible that are levied on citizens for information that already belongs to the public.
- Make public documents more accessible online without burdensome fees.
This will also end the inappropriate abuse, overcharging, and illegal revenue generating that the city and city attorney’s office has been using to weaponize public information against the citizens.
The Problem:
- Exorbitant Fees: Citizens are overcharged for information that is already public property.
- Political Weaponization: Public records are being used as a tool to silence, intimidate, and punish citizens.
- Revenue Over Rights: The City and City Attorney’s Office are generating revenue off your right to know.
- Abuse of Power: Lack of oversight has allowed illegal and unethical practices to thrive.
Truth and transparency starts with public accountability, NOT hidden behind exorbitant revenue-generating fees.
As Your Commissioner, I Will Fight For:
- A truly independent FOIA process
- Reduced or eliminated fees for public records
- Full online access to publicly available documents
- An end to retaliation and information control
- Transparency that serves the people, NOT the government
