IF ELECTED, I WILL SUPPORT THE REPEAL OF THE CITY COMMISSION ETHICS ORDINANCE.
REWRITTEN TO BE WEAPONIZED.
The ethics ordinance was rewritten to allow just TWO COMMISSIONERS and the MAYOR to initiate an ethics violation hearing against another commissioner out of a 9-member commission.
DOESN’T IT MAKE SENSE…
If something is as serious as an ethics violation, it should be easy to get a MAJORITY or SUPER MAJORITY of the commission to agree?
WEAPONIZATION AND ABUSE OF GOVERNMENT AND AUTHORITY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
THIS STOPS IF I AM ELECTED.
I WILL SUPPORT THE REPEAL OF THIS UNFAIR, POLITICALLY WEAPONIZED ORDINANCE.
I WILL PUSH FOR ETHICS REFORM THAT REQUIRES A MAJORITY OR SUPER MAJORITY TO MOVE FORWARD.
I WILL DEFEND THE RIGHT OF EVERY COMMISSIONER TO SPEAK, QUESTION, AND DO THEIR JOB WITHOUT FEAR.
I WILL PROTECT PUBLIC TRUST, NOT POLITICAL AGENDAS.
I WILL FIGHT FOR FAIRNESS.
I WILL STAND FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.
OUR CITY DESERVES HONORABLE LEADERSHIP—NOT POLITICAL HIT JOBS.
HOW IT’S ABUSED:
USED FOR POLITICAL PAYBACK
Personal grievances become “ethics complaints” to silence dissent.
LOWERED THE BAR FOR ATTACKS
Only 2 commissioners + the mayor can launch a hearing.
TARGETS THE TRUTH-TELLERS
Those who expose problems or corruption get targeted.
CREATES A CHILLING EFFECT
Commissioners think twice before speaking up or asking questions.
UNDERMINES PUBLIC TRUST
The public sees politics, not accountability.
DIVIDES THE COMMISSION
It pits colleagues against each other instead of solving problems.
