PROTECT OUR RIGHTS.
I WILL REPEAL THE CITY’S “HINDERING OR OPPOSING POLICE OFFICERS” ORDINANCE.
The “Hindering or Opposing Police Officers” ordinance is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and gives some officers a license to misuse power and abuse citizens.
Why It Must Be Repealed:
VAGUE AND OVERBROAD
It criminalizes lawful activity like recording, asking questions, and exercising your rights.
MISUSED AS AN EXCUSE
Too often it’s used to escalate encounters, justify arrests, and silence accountability.
CHILLS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
It discourages citizens from speaking out, documenting misconduct, and holding government accountable.
PUBLIC SERVANTS WORK FOR THE PEOPLE.
WE DO NOT SURRENDER OUR RIGHTS WHEN WE INTERACT WITH GOVERNMENT.
ENOUGH EXCUSES.
IT’S TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.
AS YOUR COMMISSIONER, I WILL:
PROTECT CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
Freedom of speech, the right to record, and the right to hold government accountable.
DEMAND POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY
Officers must be held to the same standard as every other public servant.
PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY
Open government builds trust and stronger communities.
SUPPORT FAIR & EQUAL ENFORCEMENT
No one is above the law. No one is below the law.
BUILD TRUST, NOT FEAR
Public safety and civil liberties can—and must—go hand in hand.
